Beauty

I do believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We live in a world were so many people place so much value on beauty. It is up to every single person to create there own sense of what beauty is to them. I also believe that the idea that beauty changes with time. If you look at art from ancient Greece, Women were viewed in a much different light from what they are now. And who is able to judge someone else’s sense of beauty? Is it ethically and morally right for someone else to judge a person strictly based on what they see. I feel beauty is just a word that represents an idea that is constantly changing. Years from now people will look back and they will have a complete different idea of what beauty is.

African Documentary

I feel that an African documentary is one that is about Africa. I feel that as long a person does the proper amount of research about any subject they can create whatever they want. Just because a certain piece was not created by a person from Africa or in an African language does not mean it can not be valuable from an intellectual standpoint. I feel that these types of situations need to be taken on a case by case basis. Also what is the mind frame of the person creating the documentary? Do they have intellectual gain in mind, or is it for some other purpose? This is a very important point in judging whether or not a documentary is effect as a academic tool.

The God's Must Be Crazy

I feel this is a perfect example of perspective in film. Some people would say that the bushman is an uncivilized person. The movie even states that fact. Who is to say who is civilized or not? From the stand point of the technologically advanced the bushman would be uncivilized, but from where he comes from he is completely normal. I believe that it is the perspective that creates the idea of being uncivilized in this film. The writers and director rely very much on this idea. I believe that the idea of a “civilized world” was created by a “civilized world”. The bushman had no since of civilization. The coke bottle was the first artifact of civilization he had ever scene. As far as he knows the “civilization” that he found is a bad thing that only brings him and his family trouble. Some could say that complication from civilization is what causes trouble in the world. Maybe we should be more like the bushman, and should depended more on family, friendship, and those relationships. Maybe then we will reach a different type of “civilization”. And it will be a type with kindness, love, and joy.
